A clean, fit mayor or a sweaty, and smelly mayor, or a fat, dead mayor?

Roberta deBoer calls Carty the "Fitness Mayor."

She's right with:

"As Chief of Staff Bob Reinbolt noted, exercise equipment that's going into a new work-out room was donated by an employee"

"Can't you just see the e-mail that must have circulated to city hall in-boxes?"

"'Looking to get rid of that unused treadmill or Nordictrack? Did your Suzanne Sommers Thigh-Master not work out so well? DO WE HAVE THE SOLUTION FOR YOU - AND IT'S TAX DEDUCTIBLE!!!'"

"Sorry, but I think a shower is a reasonable perk for a mayor, especially one who's a slave to long work hours and daily exercise."

Right on, Roberta!

I hope that Carty will exercise and maintain his health. If it costs 10 grand to give him a showever, then so be it.

After Carty has had his next 2 terms, then we'll need him again in 2014. So, if you want Carty to bail our pathetic butts out of trouble when he's gets to middle age in 2014, then let's all play nice with him, OK?

Oh, and if Carty decides that he doesn't like the architecture or engineering of a project, then ya'll better listen. It's not often that you get a mayor brought up with one of the foremost architectural and engineering firms in the country. Can anyone name the firm?

Carty has long been the king of sleeze and works hard to maintain that position.

While I do not think everything Carty does is correct and he has been known to stick his foot in his mouth on more than one occasion, I personally see nothing to get worked up over on his decision to see a shower installed in his office.

He has the authority to spend up to $10,000 without Council approval. He did just that. If you look at it from the perpective that the citizens of Toledo are he landlords of the building, then we are responsible for maintenance and upkeep of the building. Carty is [at the moment] the super of the property. This renovation benefits the "Office" of the Mayorship, not the "Man". While it is true Carty currently hold the office, the shower will benefit the mayors of the post Carty administration as well.

We as the citizens elected Carty to a new term knowing well his past indescrecions. We have learn to live with them and to expect them.

He was elected as a "Strong" mayor. We expect him to have a "Strong" voice about his vision regardless if we agree or disagree. Even his decision to question the development at Westgate was Carty voicing his concerns as STRONG Mayor as to what he would like to see in the direction the city is heading. We elected him to do that.

I believe Carty "Got the results" he was reaching for in his opposition to the Costco fiasco. I firmly believe that he knew all along that there would be no way to overturn a done deal. However, by voicing opposition as he did he sent a "STRONG" message to future developers that the citizens control the the way development should happen in their city; not to be ramrodded by some MegaBucks Corporate developer. He was simply the "STRONG" voice of the messenger. I think he took alot of heat for voicing ideas that many of our current city leadership was afraid to say because of Political backlash.

So while some may think it sleezy because they are not in agreement with him, it just may be that they do not like the STRONG Mayor form of government and wish to return to the days of the Micromanaged City Management form of government where nothing ever got done.

I personally think that G.W. Bush has made many mistakes in his presidency. I disagree with him quite often, (hence my moderate liberal beliefs), But out of my respect for the office of the President of the United States, I would never call him SLEEZY. Just a duly elected official(at least in his second term) in a STRONG Form of government voicing his vision for the future of the country because his constituents voted him in for exactly that purpose.

ALL BETS ARE OFF THOUGH IF ONE OF THESE ELECTED OFFICIALS ARE PROVEN TO HAVE VIOLATED THE LAW IN A QUEST FOR POLITICAL ZEAL!

Please do not include me in the statement, we elected him...

Never. I've known this guy since 1975 and learned quickly what 'type' of person he is.

I guess that people in Toledo could say they know what "type" of person any of us are.

Hey! At least he ain't Mike Ferner. Had Carty lost the first time, then we would have had antiwar grafitti in the mayor's office, and probably all over the exterior of Government Center.

I understand Lib and sorry if I offended you. What I mean by the term "we" was to represent the voters as a whole. Not a specific voter. I guess I would have been more correct if I woud have phrased it as:

"A majority of the citizens decided to vote for Carty and elected him to a new term knowing well his past indescrecions" and,
"He was elected to do just that"

No he ain't. And ain't it a shame that Ferner wasn't elected.

Ain't it a shame that we have to endure 4 more years of Carty Clown?

You gotta be kidding! Ferner!? If you think Carty has problems!
Ferner, is the king of space cadets!

Ferner, is the king of space cadets!

What proof do you have that he would have done a worse job than king Carty?

[and don't talk about his spray painting crap unless we get into Carty's legal problems]

1) Ferner lost the election, so the people obviously believe that he couldn't do the job that Carty could do.

2) Ferner is an anti-war activist who is so distracted by the Iraq war that he couldn't possibly fit city governement into his busy, aging hippie, kook schedule.

So, Berserker, to be a fit mayor of Toledo one must be pro-war? Pathetic. But then, if you are a Bush-apologist, I'll just consider the source and wave you on by.

If I may be so bold as to remind people that Mike Ferner (politically speaking) fatally shot himself in the mouth a couple of days before that election.

The fourth and fourteenth wards abandoned Mike in droves.

It was probably for the best as we now more about him; he couldn't get elected to the job now...

As for Carty, he does have the right to spend up to $ 10,000, but when the tab came in at four dollars under the limit, you have to suspect the numbers...

hooda-

And Carty consistently shoots himself with his mouth yet the dumbed-down citizens elected him anyway. How does this fit your 'mouth' model?

liberal_dem,

Carty doesn't fit, and he's more known for his ready, fire aim style than anuthing else.

Tis a puzzlement...

Disclaimer:

Hooda has NEVER voted for Carty for Mayor. (I've almost always cast no vote in those races.)
